The Road from Arkansas Is Well Traveled

Arkansas's Governor Mike Huckabee says he hasn't decided if he'll run for president, but he's following a trail blazed by a former Arkansas governor who did.

Mr. Huckabee last month kicked off his "Healthy America" initiative at Washington's National Press Club. He'll road-trip to Iowa and South Carolina to promote it. Iowans should recognize him -- he appeared at the "GOP Fest" event and on public television there a few weeks ago. He also toured New Hampshire in August to promote his book on battling obesity.

Like Bill Clinton before he ran for president, Mr. Huckabee is the chairman of the National Governor's Association. That position gets his face some airtime, at least on C-SPAN, much like it did for Mr. Clinton.

Mr. Huckabee retires in 2007 (he's term limited) but he won't be unemployed. This week his alma mater, Ouachita Baptist University, named its education school after him and promised to make him the head of a new education and public policy program there. It will be a part-time position, giving him plenty of time to get ready for the Republican primaries a year later.
